Donating Food After Production Wraps

At the wrap of production last month, our company, crew and friends donated all remaining, unopened food from the set.

Donating unopened food items to charities and food banks is a long-standing tradition at Kestum Bilt and other production companies, but this was our biggest donation yet. The food donated came from food stylists, set dec, unused/unopened edible props, and cast and crew meals.

After the drop off, The Community Food Pantry sent this thoughtful note: "How can we thank you enough! …cookies, muffins, donuts, lunch meat, cheese, iced tea, coffee creamer, sweet n’ low, equal, sugar, straws, salad bowls, coffee cups, brown bags, potato chips, and so much kindness! Today alone we served 198 families and one group home that benefited from your generous donation to the Community Food Pantry. Our guests come through our line once per month for a small lift for their families. We are very grateful that you considered the food-insecure community with your donations.

In 2021, the Community Food Pantry provided:
1,095,797 meals and
Served 19,241 families

Partnerships with wonderful businesses like (yours) made it possible."

It’s no secret that in the film industry, we have a bad rap for being wasteful. Efforts to become more environmentally conscious have included reusable water bottles and rechargeable batteries, but “going green” falls short when it comes to food waste.

Tackling food waste is an extremely important endeavor toward making productions more sustainable. One of the most recent stories was of the production of "Spiderman" donating 2,000 meals after wrap.

But even companies with a smaller footprint and less crew can do their part to minimize waste and give back to the communities that we are filming in. Next time production wraps, we encourage you to reach out to the film location’s local food pantries to coordinate a drop off.
